Ancestors

The veneration of the dead, including one’s ancestors, is based on love and respect for the deceased. In other cultures, ancestor worship is related to beliefs that the dead have continued existence, and may possess the ability to influence the fortune of the living. Ancestors are seen as being able to intercede on behalf of the living, often as messengers between humans and God.

Some groups venerate their direct, familial ancestors. Certain sects and religions, in particular the Eastern Orthodox Church and Roman Catholic Church, venerate saints as intercessors with God; the latter also believes in prayer for departed souls in Purgatory. Other religious groups, however, consider veneration of the dead to be idolatry and a sin.[1]

Most cultures who practice ancestor veneration do not call it “ancestor worship” because of the word “worship.” We go to church to worship, God, Jesus Christ, or Mary Magdalene, a saint or a miraculous event. Linking this form of belief to our ancestors seems strange or wrong because in the west, they are not considered to have become deities when they die.

Ancestor worship as an expression of family loyalty rather than deity worship and can be seen in simple things such as visiting a deceased relatives grave, laying flowers on a grave, praying for them on their birthday or just simply finding some time to think about them on Mother’s Day or Father’s Day.

Ancestors were once living beings. As a young child I can recall sitting in my grandmothers wonderful old arm chair when she was not around, I could touch her, and watch her as she cooked. She knew what I was thinking, and sometimes I knew what she thought of me and how earnest was my bringing up.

As an ancestor spirt, she is able to understand the challenges and successes of my life. While some cultures would say her spirit, and those of my parents are there not for me to ask for favours but to do one’s family duty. Others believe that their ancestors need to be provided for by their descendants, and their practices include offerings of food and other provisions. While still others do not believe ancestors are aware of what their descendants do for them, but that the expression of filial piety is what is important.

The act is a way to express family duty, devotion and respect and look after ancestors in their afterlives as well as seek their guidance for their living descendants. In this regard, many cultures and religions have similar practices. Generally excluded from this are rites for the dead having no specific reference to kinsmen, and beliefs about the dead in general that lack any special reference to kinship.

Asking your parents “what would you do?” When faced with a problem could be seen as ancestor worship because we are asking for their help and guidance to sort out a difficulty we have.

“Veneration of Ancestors” to those with a Western European Christian tradition feels more appropriate but it does not completely convey an accurate sense of what practitioners such as the Chinese and other Buddhist and Confucian-influenced societies, as well as the African and European cultures see themselves as doing. Their actions are consistent with the meaning of the word veneration in English, that is great respect or reverence caused by the dignity, wisdom, or dedication of a person.

Ancestor worship is often viewed as a religious practice rather than a religion as there is seldom a priesthood attached to it and there is no formal doctrine. In most cases ancestor worship is not the only religious practice of a society; rather, it exists as part of a more comprehensive religious system.

Death rites, including funerary and mortuary rituals, are regarded as falling within the purview of ancestor worship only when memorial rites beyond the period of death and disposition of the corpse are carried out as a regular function of a kinship group.

Reiki has a role to play in your ability to think about and be at peace with your parents. This is not a reading of the Akashic records. A reading of your Akashic records is what the angels and guides want you to know about form your past lives.

Sit quietly in your favorite spot for connecting with your soul and your guides.

Concentrate on the Reiki symbols you are attuned with, or, a favourite symbol that has meaning to you, see it in your minds eye. Then see the others. If you miss one that is not important for now, it is not meant to be part of this session. So, do not dwell on it.

Think about your parents. Not in a static way, like a photograph, think of times when you were together and enjoying yourselves and doing something meaningful to you both.

With your perspective, looking back to the past, you have a new image and appreciation of your parents in those moments. Of course, not everything is rosy. There are moments of sadness but even those help you gain a new appreciation of your parents and how they dealt with the situations that faced them.

If they speak to you, or offer information, listen attentively. If you have questions, or need help, ask in your mind. Set out the questions and reasons for asking but do not ask them to offer a decision on solutions you have in mind. Let the reply you get from your ancestors be undirected and without influence.

The point is that if you state a question and ask them to comment on your proposed solutions, they may not reply because none are optimal and none is any better than the other. The solution they have may not be art of your list, by limiting their feedback to only what you have come up with cuts off the one that you should have.

If it is beneficial for your spirit to pass through some difficult period or event, they may not reply at all so that you experience what you need to learn.

As you spend more time with your ancestors and call n them more frequently the dialogue will become easier and the answers you receive fuller and more detailed, but this is not a dialogue you would have had with the while you they were alive. They have passed over and have a very different view of your life, events and being.

Healing Journey

2020 has been quite a year so far, and it is only just September. The pandemic has highlighted the need for emotional and spiritual healing. Covid-19 added a whole new dimension to the already significant need for healing in our fast-paced modern society. We need to be able to shed worries, confused feelings and emotional hangers on so that we live a healthier, more balanced emotional life.

Physically, we are bombarded diets containing chemicals aimed at detoxification of our physical bodies, the container for our soul in this physical realm. Often, these detox schemes call for the denial of foods and certain types of nutrients from our diets and perhaps changes in our life style in order to achieve a quick fix/change in our bodies.

These detox schemes usually tend to disassociate the physical body from the spiritual. A number of new ingredients, plant or chemical based are introduced into our diet while at the same time, based on a calendar describing our modified intake, we limit or eliminate other natural substances from our intake.

This routine of change is often accompanied by a calendar describing when and how to progress through the cycle of changes to attain a required/desired goal. The cycle is repeated until the supplies required have run out and new ones have to be purchased.

Because Reiki is always missing from the detoxification schemes, making changes to the unique combination of physical body and spiritual soul is never achieved. It is rather like making changes to a car by putting a new and more powerful engine in it without helping the driver learn how to drive the updated car.

As a Reiki Teacher and Practitioner, it is common to see people suffering from anxiety, tension, mental and phycological overloads from the lives they are leading. The result of these anxieties, tension and stress is spiritual. It manifests in blocked chakras, and the imbalance of the soul with the physical body resulting. The imbalance may result in the soul detaching from the physical container and being unable to reconnect with the body, a phenomenon called soul loss. In this condition the person drifts aimlessly, achieving little and learning less, a critical factor when karma is weighed as part of spiritual rebirth and progress into the next life.

I think of fear, doubt, worry, stress, anxiety, confusion, and anger as products of our mind. Busy mind to be precise. They are perceptions of the world, people and places and situation we are interacting with. We may fear our performance review at work based on our perception and confusion about how we feel we have performed. This in turn creates anxiety, stress and doubt about our abilities. But none of these are real. You cannot reach out with your finger and place it on fear, or worry or confusion.

What you can do is reach out and connect with the here and now, the moment, in which you exist, learn, and understand about the moment in which we exist and the world and people around us.

“All negativity is caused by an accumulation of psychological time and denial of the present. Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry – all forms of fear – are caused by too much future, and

not enough presence. Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms

of no forgiveness are caused by too much past, and not enough presence.” Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment.

Connect with the here and Now, pay attention to what is around you. Allowing your busy mind to hash over and over things that happened in the past, or allowing it to project unrealized thoughts and fears into the future, causing anxiety, doubt and worry for you is not being the Now. The Now is the people, animals, birds, plants, even your car. The way your car drives, the power and smoothness, or not, of the engine. How it smooths the ride with its suspension, or not, of course.

But even when things are not smooth and easy, be aware of them in the Now and understand them. Use Reiki to help you free your mind of the fears and doubts that interrupt your vision of the Now by giving those little mind stoppers to your angels and guides. The universe is working out the details of your life, what you need and when and how to make the changes you need. Pay attention to those things. As changes happen, and new people come into your life or leave, celebrate them and be with them in the Now.

Reiki can relieve you for the worries and anxieties but also let it give you a stronger connection to your own spiritual path and goals.

If you are not attuned to Reiki seek out a Reiki practitioner to help you by performing a Reiki Session for you. Feel the benefits of the session and then look into studying for your first level attunement. Being attuned to Level 1 Reiki will help you make your quiet meditation become deeper and more effective at releasing the of fear, doubt, worry, stress, anxiety, and confusion that is affecting the enjoyment of your life. It will help you be more present in the Now.

As you progress in your studies and Attunements, you will find your mind is less busy because now you have a way to release that negative, obsessive energy and your awareness of the Now increasing and being easier to connect with and receive its benefits.

Keep a journal. A journal will help you record and clarify your feelings and events in the Now. Record the release of anger, frustration, fear, worry and doubt. Record where those negative feelings come from. Is there a part of you that is more open to those forms of negativity than it should be? It may be because of events in a past life and part of your reason for being here is to learn how to release that aspect of your soul and to be more positive and connected with the Now.

It is time now to come to grips with Gratitude. Every morning, I give myself a simple self-Reiki session. I express my gratitude for my angels and guides and also myself. Who and why I am who I am.? What I achieved the day before, what I recognised in others and how I responded. I express my love for myself because in that moment I am different from everything I have been before, and tomorrow, I will be different from what I am today. Even a small change is important to recognise and be grateful for because if there is not even that small change in ourselves, it means we have become stagnant and unresponsive to the world around us.

Reiki helps open us to its universal energy and that helps us grow and expand our awareness and to be grateful for that change. Gratitude is a way of expressing our happiness at the changes in us which in turn gives us a way to be responsive to new things and experiences.

Gratitude is expressive, and expansive. When you express and feel grateful for something, it is sending out an energetic appreciation and an invitation for comparable energy to come to us. All manner of things can give us happiness and be things we are grateful for.

Part of this expression of Gratitude is how it opens us to new experiences that expand our lives by the experiences we have. When we thank the universe for beautiful events and experiences, it sends us more. When a relationship ended several years ago, I found myself at a stop light and opposite me was a scuba diving store. The relationship had always prevented me from learning and participating in the activity. Without the relationship I was able to participate and did so. It started a magical period in my life which I would repeat if given the time and opportunities it brought me all over again.

Do not let fear, doubt, worry, stress, anxiety, confusion stop you from doing new things and having new experiences. I was not born knowing how to scuba dive, I did not know how to participate, enjoy the process of learning and making mistakes, getting up and dusting yourself. Lack of success is a learning experience do not fear it. Learn how to manage it and then learn from the experience.

Learning and experience gained from your lack of success are all part of your journal and art of your daily Reiki meditation which helps you understand yourself and is part of the gift of Reiki which when you are attuned at the Master Teacher level you can help other people understand.

If we allow it

If we allow it anger and disappointment to stay in our lives, it will slowly eat away at us. Become what we think and feel, rather than the other way around. When I was attuned as a Reiki Practitioner, something new came into my life. An energy that helped me shed the worries and concerns, it allowed me to become peaceful and accepting and appreciative of what life gave to me rather blaming and unhappy if what I received was less than what I felt I was worth or due.

Over the years there had been many things that had been wonderful and engaging but also things that seemed like disappointments. The latter were like coats of paint, applied over, and over again, in different colors to some beautifully carved wood. As the layers of paint build up and up, the sharpness and wonder of the carving becomes blunted and less clear. The carving in losing the clarity of shape and design becomes less attractive to look at.

Reiki energy on clearing away the layers of disappointment restored the beauty of the carving to the light of day. Once again, its beauty was on show, once again, the carving could breathe.

The worries that upset my stomach were gone, the muffled throat chakra was speaking clearly and could be heard, the Heart Chakra beat more slowly.

There are of course two ways to experience Reiki, the simplest way is to book a Reiki session and receive it in either an in person or remote session. The other it to become attuned to Reiki and experience Reiki through the attunement process, Ultimately, when you are attuned to the highest level you will be able to perform self-Reiki.

With a new perspective, I could see why I was angry and why angry people and situations came into my life. I could see why the natural progression of life angered me.

Through self-Reiki old events, people and places that had created anger, frustration and seemed to magnify the disappointments I felt I were coming to me were still there, as clear as they had been all along, but now there was no pain associated with them. As my experience with self-Reiki grew stronger and more proficient, the less and less those old memories meant to me. And, if I encountered a person from those memories again, they did not create a sense of anger. I had been immunized from their anger, they were simply just a person that I had once known and lost connection with.

As I started to look back on my life, and compared it to what was happening now, I realized less and less angry people and places were being brought into my life. Being angry tends to create angry words and expression, angry behavior creates situations that can only create angry outcomes, situations and people. This made me very happy. The cycle of anger and angry people and toxic situations had ended.

This is not magic! It is Reiki. Will it stop you coming into contact with toxic people, especially at work, no. But it will help with your response, and it certainly will help with how these people and situations don’t affect me. Like lightening, they strike my lightening rod which is Reiki and dissipate straight into the ground. At the end of the day, in my self-Reiki session, I look back and completely wash the situation and person away. If they come back the next day, I can deal with them again, in the same way while knowing how I must change things to rid myself of them and the situation.

Reiki is about the universal energy that is available to all of us, our soul chose to reincarnate in order to learn and experience. Our life path is the path we are walking for the soul to do experience. Reiki and that universal energy helps the life path to be less rocky and for the charisma of our soul to be less muted, less like the carving that has lost its shape and definition. The journey is about experience and learning, not how much baggage we can carry that has no value.

Healthy Boundaries

Setting Healthy Boundaries with people is one of the best things you can do for yourself with the help of Reiki.

Some people refer to boundaries as a form of self-protection, a way of building a wall that keeps certain people, places, and events out of their personal space. This is an example of their self-respect; this reassurance of self-esteem helps remove negativity from life. The end result is they are happier in the knowledge their space will not or cannot be impinged on.

If you are attuned to Reiki, using the universal energy in Reiki to help set these boundaries is powerful and mysterious.

Think for a moment how you feel when someone imposes their will on you. They have it in their mind that events in your life should proceed at a pace they set and have no regard for your feelings, emotions or expectations. You are not at someone else’s beck and call; you are not a skivvy to their beck and call. I know from experience that I do not like and resent people who have this opinion of me. I resent the manipulation they try to impose when they feel their control slipping.

It is important to remember that people learn from you how it is they are to treat you. It is you and you alone who are in charge of your life. When you make that known, you have established your boundaries, boundaries that keep you ascending your own vibrational ladder.

Reiki is a powerful tool for helping to set and maintain boundaries. Reiki works for the greatest good of all, and ego cannot influence Reiki. As a Reiki Practitioner, we are a conduit for the flow of Reiki Energy. We do not decide what it does or where it goes, it is intelligent so let Reiki energy do its thing, let it improve our lives.

Boundaries can be created using Reiki in many different ways.

Learn to say No! No, is not selfish. It tells others that what they are asking or indirectly hinting at it suggesting does not work for you, is not something you want to do or be a part of. No does not require an explanation. Stand firm on No if you really mean it and would be unhappy if you said yes!

If you know you will have to say no in a meeting or Infront of a group of people, find a moment when you can practice the scene, who says what and how and why. Do this with closed eyes and with a clear call to your Reiki guides for strength and clarity about what you are going to do in the meeting.

Also, think about the Throat Chakra. You will be speaking this Chakra is important. It needs to be clear, balanced and full of energy.

In today’s world, it is often the case that we will have to speak for ourselves without the other person being present. It could be a phone call, or telephone conference call. It could be an email, or a video conference call. Again, preparation is similar to the steps described previously only this time it is not a one-to-one meeting but a group. Make your statement clear and politely, do not engage in any verbal or other challenges. Tell them what your boundaries are, what you accept and what you will not. If you are speaking give Reiki Strength to your Throat Chakra. Even if you are sending an email, send energy to your Reiki Chakra. I always find it best to spend some time re-reading an email, even speaking it out loud quietly to myself.

When it comes to people and relationships, no matter how you say no, it may be that you have to end the relationship of someone you know or have known but who is no longer part of your life, but they have left a legacy that still brings them into your life.

It is best to be quiet and have a piece of paper and pencil Infront of you. Write their name at the top of the paper. If your writing is not that clear, write the name slowly and clearly.

Underneath write – “I release this person and attached emotions and all forms of connection from my life with love and peace.” I find that drawing the Reiki Power symbol Cho Ku Rei in the centre of the page with smaller versions in each corner help to seal the words and the wishes. You can burn the paper, shred it and put it in the Recycling.

When you choose to do this it maybe that you do not have pencil and paper conveniently available. I put my hands together in Gassho and say the person’s name and the words three times. I draw the Reiki Power Symbol, Cho Ku Rei, three times as I say the person’s name and draw the symbol in the air with my finger.

In all of this, setting boundaries is not a selfish act, it an act of self-assurance and love for yourself. As you respect others it is only writing and fitting that you receive respect from others. Oh, and by the way, the same goes for family members. When we are young, it is OK to let parents set some of our boundaries, but as we mature and become adults, it is time for us to set our own.

Happiness

Happiness, we all want some happiness in our lives. It does not matter what creates it, it could be baking, planting flowers or vegetables, or completing a long bicycle ride. Whatever it is, something makes us feel good about ourselves, what we are doing or simply, just being alive.

When we are happy, that is the time to show gratitude to life, but especially what made us feel happy in the first place. Being and showing gratitude changes your life. What you are thankful for becomes clearer in your mind.

When we are happy and we want to show gratitude. You can simply say, something like, I am pleased, I am happy, I enjoy that… Another way to do is to write down what it you are happy about. The act of writing, holding a pen and shaping the letters on a piece of paper, reinforces what it is you are happy about and what has brought you to that enjoyable state. Of course, you can type at a keyboard.

The point is to have a physical record of happiness and gratitude.

Put the pieces of paper into a box, a draw, or a glass jar if you have used small pieces of paper.

If you are attuned to Reiki, can draw the symbols, over the container in which you have stored your notes. If you are not attuned, think of the best sunrise you have experienced. It doesn’t matter when the sunrise occurred, just that you witnessed it. In case you have not seen a sunrise, you can think of now, think of music.

Feel free to add to the notes in the container. Moments of a happy occasion, a holiday, a party, a celebration of some kind such as a wedding, a birthday. Or, an award. These things and the memories add energy to the energy in your notes.

Gratitude creates more happiness and things to be grateful for. Abundance starts to manifest, the type of abundance that creates more gratitude.

From time to time, especially if you are feeling unhappy, open the container and read through the notes, take out the mementoes, look at the pictures if there are any. Hold them and let Reiki together with the look and feel of the keep sakes bring happy memories and gratitude back into your life and sweep away the unhappiness you are feeling.
